Paschall Waters Lamb, "Pat," 91, a lifelong resident of Red River, New Mexico, went home to our Lord on Saturday, February 12, 2022.
Pat was born on Saturday, September 13, 1930 to Sidney Simon and Ollie Oretha Butler Lamb in Big Spring, Texas. Pat's mother died when Pat was around 10 years of age. He was raised mostly by his grandparents, just north of Big Spring.
Pat excelled at sports, especially football and track at Big Spring High School. Though small in stature, he played varsity for several years against men twice his size.
Pat married Mary Dolan of Big Spring, Texas, in Lovington, New Mexico, on February 21, 1950. She was 17, and he was 19. At the time of Mary's death, they had been married for 70 years and two weeks. Pat and Mary worked as sharecroppers for one season and nearly starved. They moved into the city of Big Spring to take jobs. They made a life in Big Spring, of family, work, and church. They were members of East 4th Street Baptist Church. Pat gave his life to Jesus Christ at a Lester Roloff Revival while he was in his early 20's. Pat worked briefly in offshore drilling in Louisiana, but then returned to Big Spring and began working at Cosden Oil Refinery. Pat and Mary had three sons, Rick, Dan, and Larry.
In the early 1960's, Mary and Pat longed for a different way of life. They visited Red River, New Mexico, during the summers to attend Square Dances at the Red River Community House and to enjoy the cool, mountain air.
In 1963, Pat and Mary purchased the Three Canyon Camp and moved to Red River. They renamed the camp Lonesome Pine Lodge, for the large pine tree on the property. Pat began immediately to remodel the Lodge's plumbing, roofs, siding, and overall appearance. His knowledge of building trades aided him in working at the Lonesome Pine Lodge and doing odd jobs for people in town and in the upper valley. Eventually, Pat went to work for the Red River Ski Area in the winter and worked building houses in the summer. He also worked for Johnny Mutz with heavy excavating equipment. Pat and Mary enjoyed square dancing early on in their marriage, and they constructed a large square dance floor at the current site of the Eisenhut Condominiums.
When the city of Red River incorporated, Pat served on the first City Council and did so numerous times through the years. He was on the New Mexico Mounted Patrol and very involved in helping the town of Red River grow in the 60's, 70's, and 80's.
Eventually, Pat and Mary sold the Lonesome Pine Lodge to a group of dentists and doctors who built the Eisenhut Condominiums. He moved the old two-story office building around the corner to the current site of All Seasons, Inc. Mary started All Seasons in 1967 with a partner and opened the first fine art gallery in Red River, carrying high quality sculptures and paintings. Very quickly, she learned to expand into other gifts and collectibles. Mary soon bought out her partner, and she and Pat added ski rental and snowmobile rental and sales to the business in 1968.
Over the years, Pat ran a successful construction business, constructing residential and commercial properties in Red River, Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, and a few places beyond. He was known as an excellent builder and one who hired local boys and men to work for him, teaching them the trade of building and to be fine men as well.
For a brief time, in 1989, Mary and Pat returned to Big Spring, Texas, but missed the mountains and their "home," so they returned to Red River to rebuild All Seasons, Inc. In later years, low oxygen levels forced them to leave their mountain home and move near family in Corsicana, Texas, where Mary resided until her death. Pat was unable to return to Red River full time due to low oxygen levels, but eventually settled in Albuquerque until the time of his death.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. He is survived by three sons; Rick, and wife, Becky Lamb; Dan Lamb; Larry and wife, Sapna Lamb; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews; and a lifetime of customers and friends. The Lamb family wishes to express their gratitude to the many people who have shown love and concern for them in the past few years.
A memorial service will be held at the Red River Community House, 116 E Main St, Red River, NM 87558, on February 24th, at 10:00 a.m., burial immediately to follow. Rick Lamb will officiate the service.
