Opal "Bernice" Hermanson

October 3, 1923 — May 3, 2014

Opal "Bernice" Hermanson, age 91, died peacefully on Saturday, May 3, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM. Bernice was born October 3, 1923 in Flora Vista, New Mexico to Thomas and Claytie Allen. She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Ernell Hermanson; sons, Thomas Hermanson and wife, Kaye of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Gerald Hermanson and wife, Linda of Albuquerque, sister, Jacquelyn Lewis and husband Vaughn of Belen; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Bernice met Ernell in California during WWII, where she was working as a "Rosie the Riveter." Faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church. She was also active in The New Mexico Art League and enjoyed painting and design. We mourn her passing, we will miss her dearly, but we celebrate her life. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church, 7001 San Antonio Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. Private interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church.
