Onorio Romo, 86, beloved Husband, Son, Father, and Father-in-law, was called to his eternal resting place on August 9, 2024. A Funeral Service will be held 10 am Thursday August 15, 2024, at French Funerals and Cremations 1275 Unser Rd Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He entered this world on November 7, 1937 in San Luis Obispo, CA, born to Salome and Dora Romo. He is survived by his wife Barbara Romo; daughter Xochitl Romo; son Cuautemoc Romo; daughter-in-law Theresa Zamora Romo; daughter Theresa Romo; daughter Roberta Romo; son Ricardo Romo; son Cuitlahuac Romo; daughter Rosalia Romo; son Honorio Romo; son Horacio Romo; son Hugo Romo.
Onorio had a tough childhood having been left in an orphanage when he was five years old by his father until his grandmother took him home to live with her. He lived with her and helped her with her store and daily tasks until she passed several years later. He was forced to leave home at a young age, surviving on the streets of Mexico by virtue of his wits and grit. No matter what obstacles he faced, he always triumphed to become a better person while managing to also help make others around him better. Above all, he valued family throughout his entire life, across many generations and borders. He eventually moved back to the United States and joined the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country, choosing to enlist in the Vietnam War and earning two silver stars and two bronze stars for valor for his actions, saving countless lives and leading troops through unforgiving battlefields through the jungle. His military service spanned nearly three decades and was among his proudest achievements in his lifetime. He was outspoken, courageous and fiercely loyal to those he loved, and he loved his family and country above all else. He held a special place in his heart for children and animals in particular, relating to their vulnerability on a deeply personal level, and seemed to attract their love in return wherever he went. He lived a full life, full of more experiences and achievements than most of us will enjoy, as well as more challenges and hardships to overcome that most of us will never have to endure. And yet, despite his winding journey through life, he managed to touch everyone he met and leave a lasting impression. The world is truly a better place because he not only was in it, but because he helped shape it in profoundly meaningful ways. His impact in this world will continue to be felt long after his passing, in ways that we can only imagine.
