Norman Reich
February 5, 1929 - July 27, 2016
Norman Reich, 87, passed away on July 27, 2016, at his home in Albuquerque, NM. Norman was born in Bronx, NY in 1929 to Esther and Isador Reich. He attended Central High School of Needle Trades.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952, where his postings included being stationed at the Enewetak Atoll to witness the testing of nuclear weapons. It was while he was stationed in Albuquerque that he met Barbara Berg, whom he married in 1951. Together they had three sons, Richard, Marc, and Steven.
After leaving the Air Force, Norm entered the field of transportation. He worked at Santa Fe Railroad and Duke City Lumber Company. He also owned and ran, with his father-in-law, New Mexico Auto Supply. After retiring, Norm embarked upon a new career in hospitality. A longtime host at Shoney's across from Coronado Mall, his energetic service and ready smile won him many friends.
Norman was a proud Mason, a member of Hiram Lodge No. 13, AF&AM for 60 years. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1974.
Norman is survived by his wife, Barbara; his three sons; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.
