Norman McFall

March 16, 1932 — October 20, 2012

Age 80, a lifelong resident of New Mexico and resident of Albuquerque since 1951, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2012, surrounded by his family. Norman was born on March 16, 1932 in Venus, New Mexico to Raines Austin and Mary Allen McFall. He grew up on the McFall farm in Barton, New Mexico where the family raised pinto beans and other dry land crops. He graduated from Stanley High School in 1950. Following high school, he was proud to serve in the United States Navy.Following his service in the Navy, Norman lived in Oregon for several years where he worked in the lumber industry. Upon returning to Albuquerque, he was employed by Duke City Oil Company and El Paso Natural Gas Co. before starting his own business in 1962. During his 43 years as a businessman in Albuquerque, he founded several successful corporations. He was a general contractor for most of those years, specializing in the construction of service stations, and installing and maintaining fuel systems. Throughout his career, he had a close working relationship with most major U.S. oil companies and had long-term contracts with many federal and state agencies. He was the owner and president of A & P Construction, Inc. for over 35 years, and retired in 2005 at the age of 73. Norm was a recognized expert in the field of fuel storage and dispensing systems. In the past 50 years, he built more service stations and installed more fuel storage tanks than any other individual in the state of New Mexico. Norman was a member of Bethel Heritage Church since 1958, where he served as a Trustee on the Executive Board for over 30 years. He married Marion Janell Scott on November 19, 1958. Norman and Janell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Janell McFall on April 28, 2009; his father Raines Austin McFall; mother Mary Allen McFall; stepmother Daisy Hicks McFall; two brothers, Fredo McFall and Nelson McFall; sisters Mona McFall, Alene (Dedo) Rogers, and Billie Mullins. He is survived by his son, Norman Austin McFall II and wife Christine of Albuquerque; his daughter, Machelle McFall of Albuquerque; grandsons, Mark McFall and Scott McFall of Albuquerque; sister Alice Calkins and husband Le Roy of Central Point, Oregon; sister, Aimee Buckmaster of Grants Pass, Oregon; sister-in-law, Lauretha McFall of Tijeras; sister-in-law, Charlene Whitmore of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Esther Scott of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in law, John and Ella Kershaw of Dallas, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Betty Scott of Prescott, Arizona, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Norm was a gentle and kind man who was an example of character and integrity, and was the source of great strength to his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Boulevard N.E. in Albuquerque, with Rev. Michael Mullins officiating.
