Noreen D. Psillas, 87, of Albuquerque passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022, due to short-term health complications. She was born on August 26, 1934, in South Africa to Edward and Anne Solomons. She was married to Air Force Veteran, Oliver Overton (1928-1970) in 1959 in Southend-On-Sea, Essex, United Kingdom. She came to the United States shortly after and bore her son, Edward Overton in Albuquerque, NM. Noreen then worked diligently to proudly become a Naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1969.
Noreen married Army Veteran and Sandia Labs Mechanical Engineer, Harold C. Psillas (1928-1985) on April 7, 1970, and inherited two children, Katherine and Christopher Psillas. They continued to live happily in Albuquerque and enjoyed traveling in their '68 Dodge van while spending time at Conchas Lake, going to the Lodge for burgers and movie nights. Her children especially will remember her fondness for making and serving tuna patties. Her devotion to frying them exceeded that of any other mother and was in keeping with the highest traditions of Marine Corps food services.
Noreen was an adored grandmother and great-grandmother to eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She truly enjoyed the love and laughter children of all ages would bring to her. She especially loved gifting trinkets from her travels and helpful items. She never forgot a holiday or missed an opportunity to buy a holiday-themed necklace or stuffed animal.
While primarily a tidy homemaker throughout her life, she was also an extremely skilled seamstress from her days working in the Levi factory. She was an avid volunteer throughout the Albuquerque community holding positions in the British Club, ABQ Little Theater, Hiland Theater, Popejoy Hall, Faith Lutheran Church, Carrie Tingley Hospital, and Bear Canyon Senior Center. She enjoyed line dancing with friends and even had a brief stent of belly dancing in her youth.
Noreen will forever be remembered for her devotion to God, her English accent, her active lifestyle, her beautiful garden, her appreciation for the Queen, her love of a good, strong cup of hot Lipton tea in the morning, her sweet tooth for the perfect cookie, her '68 VW Bug, her world travels and Laughlin trips, her love of the theater, her servant's heart of gold, and her impeccable crocheted works of art that will forever be adored by all.
She is survived by her children, Edward Overton, Katherine Gampert, and Christopher Psillas; her grandchildren, Morgan Overton, Anthony Overton, Bryan Gampert, Scott Gampert, Joan Navarro Galicia, Stephanie Dizon, Christopher Psillas II, and Leilani Psillas; her great-grandchildren, Austin and Easton Levison, Jaison and Jolina Hansanah, Joshua and Jacob Galicia, and Christopher Lito Dizon. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Kimberly Overton; son-in-law, Steven Gampert; daughter-in-law, Myrna Psillas; grandson-in-law, Phillip Levison, grandson-in-law, Henry Dizon, and grandson-in-law, Angel Galicia.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anne Solomons; her brothers, Kenneth and Edward Solomons; her husband, Harold Psillas; and her beloved pets, Big John and Sucha.
