Norbert Francis Stuart, age 92, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on September 28, 2023 in Albuquerque, NM. He entered this world on October 15, 1930 in Rochester, NY, born to James F. and Anna (nee Keck) Stuart. He is survived by sons James (Jennifer), Christopher (Valerie), Edward (Carl), and Raymond; granddaughter Jennifer (Chris) Hyde-Stuart; and great-granddaughter Evelyn. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Jeanette June Stuart, and by his parents and sister Marion.
Norbert spent much of his life in Rochester before moving his family to Albuquerque in the 1970s. After high school, he joined the Air Force and served as a radar operator. During the Korean War he was stationed for two years in Japan. After leaving the service, he attended business school and earned a degree in accounting which he used in his work for businesses in New York and New Mexico. He retired in the 1980s, in part due to progressive multiple sclerosis, a disease he battled for most of his adult life with amazing courage. During retirement, he volunteered for several years at The Storehouse in Albuquerque and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid reader of the news and enjoyed following politics and current events.
Norbert was a long-time attendee of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Albuquerque and his Catholic faith gave him much strength in his later years. Both he and his family are profoundly grateful to Hospice of New Mexico in his final months and to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque, especially the Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder Unit, for their significant support over many years.
A celebration of Norbert's life will be held at a later date. He will be returned to rest with his wife, parents, and sister at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Norbert's name to Animal Humane (New Mexico) or The Storehouse in Albuquerque.
