Noma Lois O'Brien Russell, age 88, of Albuquerque, NM born in Prague, Oklahoma, passed away in her home 2-22-22.
Noma's outstanding accomplishments were:
• Master of Arts in teaching-NM State University
• B.S. degree (with honors)-NM State University
• Reading Specialist-Gallup, NM Mid-School
• Nominated "NM Teacher of the year" 1967
• Named as Outstanding Secondary Educator, 1974
• One of the ten finalists for "Distinguished Teaching Award, 1988
• Directed a reading program that was named one of the top ten in the US by
Encyclopedia Britannica, 1972
• Approximately 25 years teaching until retirement.
Noma loved her family, friends, gardening, traveling, fishing, and reading.
She was preceded in death by parents, Everett and Bertha O'Brien; husband, Boyce Cauble Russell; and brother, E.J. O'Brien.
Survived by sons, Ronald, Rockne and spouses; daughter, Robin; two grandchildren, Corey, Randi and spouses; seven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Doris O'Brien; two nieces, one nephew and spouses; one great-niece and three-great nephews; two cousins, Gary Tipton and spouse, and Mary Martha Willis.
