Noma Lee Hopkins went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 18, 2023. Her daughters, Cheryl and Jan, were with her at the time of her passing. Noma was born Saturday, February 1, 1930 in Springhill, Texas to Ethel Noma Ramsey Nuckols Davis and Edward Lee Nuckols. She married the love of her life, Truman Rhea Hopkins on Monday, September 1, 1947 in Weatherford, Texas. Truman was in the Air Force so they moved from San Angelo, Texas to Big Springs, Texas to Fairbanks, Alaska, to Crosby, North Dakota, back to San Angelo, and to Alamogordo, New Mexico during his military career. Upon Truman's retirement they moved to Albuquerque in 1969. Noma's main career was caring for and raising their three daughters, but she supplemented their income with a number of jobs, such as working in a photography studio, as a switchboard operator, a church secretary, also working for a civilian contractor, Telecomputing Services at Holloman AFB, and later in Albuquerque working for a home health agency.
Noma is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Ann Vineyard and her husband Mike, and Janice Kay (Jan) Robbins and her husband David; nine grandchildren Doug Vineyard, Chris Martin, Jeff Holdcraft, Steffanie Burgos, Jason Gilbert, Matt Robbins, Nicholas Robbins, Amber Vineyard, and Elizabeth Denison; fourteen great-grandchildren Alex, Zach and Cody Vineyard, Logan and Sofie Lafors, Christian and Olivia Gilbert, Jacob and Nathan Robbins, Cadence, Conner, and Delainey Denison, Luke Rodriguez and Vincent Vineyard. She is also survived by twin sisters Carol Nuckols and Coral Southwell; brother-in-law Larry Hopkins; and sister-in-law Beulah Roberts; and seven nieces and nephews.
Noma was preceded in death by her husband Truman; her parents; her brother Charles Nuckols; sister Violet Nuckols; daughter Judy Lynne Gilbert; and granddaughter Denise Vineyard. Noma was a long-time member of Sandia Baptist Church where she faithfully served her Lord, Jesus Christ as a Sunday School teacher, committee member, Grief Share leader, and she counted and deposited weekly offerings for many years. She was also active in her lady's Bible Study.
Noma was a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed. Family welcomes friends to FRENCH- Lomas Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Ave NE 87112. Pall Bearers will be Mike Vineyard, David Robbins, Doug Vineyard, Chris Martin, Jeff Holdcraft, and Matt Robbins. Honorary Pall Bearer will be Nicholas Robbins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to New Mexico Baptist Disaster Relief Fund to assist with fire victims in Maui, Hawaii. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Presbyterian Hospice, Inpatient Hospice at Kaseman Hospital, and especially the caregivers at Beehive - Four Hills for the excellent care of our Mom and Grandmother in the last few months of her life. We met some very beautiful, caring people and will not forget them.
