Nick Vargas, 84, a native of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nora; sons, Nick Vargas, Jr. and wife Cindy and Victor Martinez and wife, Sonia; grandchildren, Liane Armijo, Joanne Vargas, Dominic Vargas and wife Kayla, and Anissa Kosick; great-grandchildren, Gavin King, Damien Vargas and Alexis Cereceres; siblings, Frances Abeyta, Isabelle Barreras, Consie Botts, Manuel Vargas, and Johnny Vargas; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Nick was preceded in death by his daughter, Irene Kosick; parents, Julian and Modesta Vargas; and siblings, Lupe Vargas, Valentina Chavez, Josie Fernandez, Nettie Martinez, Rudy Vargas.
Nick proudly fought as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War before he and Nora married and raised their family. Nick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He retired as an electrician from A.P.S in 1993. He will be missed and will always be remembered for his kindness and faith by those who loved him.
Rosary will be recited on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - University with viewing to begin at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 309 Stover Ave SW 87102. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
