On December 26, 2015, Nettie passed away peacefully at home with family by her side. She was 102 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Foster William Maples; her infant son Danny Maples; daughter Freda Barnett; and son Carl Maples. She is survived by three brothers, Bill (Doris), Lindsey and Bobby (Gladys) Lasiter; daughter Fosteen Sergeant of Albuquerque, NM; son Tommy (Shirley) Maples of Modesto, California; and daughter in law Leslie Maples of Modesto, California. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Mike (Jeanette) Barnett, Steve (Gail) Barnett, Hal Barnett, Tony (Chiki) Sergeant, Jody (Frank) Senia, Nikki (Tim) Barratt, Cherie Medlock, David (Paul) Maples, Daniel Maples, Heidi (Chuck) Partlow, Jennie (Robert) Preston; and nineteen great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren, many who referred to her as "Grandma ET".
Nettie was born in August of 1913 in Dublin, Arkansas to Thomas and Claudia Lasiter. She was one of eleven children. Growing up on a farm, she found herself getting into trouble often for breaking off pieces of the cattle's salt lick and eating it like candy. In the 1930s, during the dust bowl era, Nettie and Foster moved their young family to California in search of better opportunities.
She lived over fifty years in California where she worked for twenty-two plus years at the Campbell Soup Company in Modesto. She loved camping with her family in the Sierras, bowling with friends, playing and winning on the slots at the casinos. In 1986 she moved to Albuquerque, NM to live with her Daughter Freda.
She enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and family. She was never short on stories, and could roll dice playing Yahtzee into the wee hours of the morning. She loved listening to country music, and watching her 49ers and Giants.
She will be missed by all who knew her. She had a strong faith and we find comfort in knowing she is with Jesus. Friends and family may visit FRENCH - Lomas, Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
