Nathaniel G. Hurwitz, MD was a compassionate doctor, a brilliant theorist, and most importantly a loving husband and father. He died tragically at 52 in a weather-related multi-vehicle collision on January 15, 2018. He was born on June 29, 1965 in Bethesda MD to Aryeh Hurwitz MD and Judith Pfeffer Hurwitz MD. He is survived by his daughters, Leah and Ariel; spouse, Ivy Hurwitz PhD; mother, Judith; and brothers, Michael Hurwitz MD PhD and Daniel Aires MD.
Nat was passionate about science and the brain, attained consistently excellent patient outcomes in very difficult settings, and also published original psychiatric research. At the time of his death, Nat was working on a large-scale correlation between suicidality and classes of medications.
Nat was an accomplished singer, songwriter and pianist.
He was also a gifted athlete who wrestled varsity in college, boxed and attained a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do under Master Choon Lee. He met his beloved wife (also a 4th degree black belt) at Choon Lee's Academy.
More than anything else, Nat was always ready to give everything to help people including family, friends, and patients.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018, 12:00 p.m., at FRENCH - University. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
