Nancy Louise Wemple passed away February 17, 2024. She leaves behind her grandson Nate Wemple (Savana), granddaughter Madison Wemple (Logan), her daughter-in-law Vicki Wilmarth (Jeffery) and step granddaughter Myah Wilmarth. She came from a large family of three sisters and one brother and leaves behind her sister Janice, and nieces and nephews: Donna, TJ (Jessica), Denise (Martin), Steve (Lenore), Sherril (Rod), Scott (Kaylon), Angie, Vicki (Albert), Pat (Sharon), Lawrence (Teresa), Tim (Kim), Keith (Sande).
Preceding her in death were her son Jeff Wemple (2011) and husband Robert Wemple (2021).
Nancy Wise married Bob Wemple, the love of her life, in 1960 and they were happily married for 61 years. Both from Indiana, they moved to Albuquerque in pursuit of his career with Sandia National Labs. They purchased a home suitable for a growing family and became lifelong members of Ridgecrest Christian Church.
Along came Jeff, her one and only child, in 1963, and for the next 18 years she kept busy as a homemaker. She started her career in 1981 when Jeff decided to go to college to be an engineer like his father. Bob wanted him to pay his way through school but Nancy would have none of that so she found a bookkeeping job with Dr. Raymond Matteucci. Not only did she pay for her sons college, she went on to work for Dr. Matteucci for over 30 years!
Nancy expressed her love through acts of service and taking care of people. Her amazing cooking and baking skills will likely be first and foremost in people's memories. Being from the Midwest and raised among the Amish, she added a spoonful of sugar to pretty much everything - even salsa! She was extremely considerate of pickiness and allergies. She mastered the art of homemade "Gluten Free" recipes after Bob and Jeff were diagnosed with celiacs disease. She knew all of her family members favorite dishes and would do her best to make it during special events/ get-togethers.
But hands down, our all-time favorites were her pies. She was a master pie baker and would often make two, sometimes three, so we could enjoy some of each. One very special time, for Bobs 50th birthday, she completely filled their antique pie safe with a variety of his favorite pies and invited their family and friends over to celebrate the occasion!
Nancy was a selfless woman who, when you were with her, was focused solely on you and your interests and what was going on in your life. She lived in the moment and didn't often worry about tomorrow. She loved the Lord and is surely with Him now, resting in the peace of her eternal salvation. As for her little family, we will miss her very much. We will cherish the multitude of memories made, and always remember her lighthearted, selfless, and loving demeanor."
