Margarita Monica Barela beloved wife, mother, grandmother great-grandmother passed from this world to her eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, September 12, 2022, with family at her side. She has joined her husband of 65 years, Candido in heaven. Monica was born July 20, 1935, in Pecos, NM.
Monica is survived by children; Janet Barela & Logie Mathis of Albuquerque, NM, and John Barela & wife Heidi Forrest-Barela of Poquoson, VA.; grandchildren, Adriana Hasby husband George, Adrian Mathis wife April, Taylor, Adam, Aurelia, Marcus Barela wife Angelica and Candice; great grandchild, Archie Mathis, Lucille, Cordelia, Donovan, Lola, and Marcus Jr. as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Monica was preceded in death by her daughter Jacqueline J. Engelman; son, Mark J. Barela; parents, Julio Valencia, Sr., and Baudelia Valencia; sisters, Salome Roybal, Onesima Padilla, Rosarita Valencia; brothers, Raul Valencia, Tobias Valencia, and Julio Valencia Jr.
Her love was never wavering. She enjoyed being "helping hands "as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Camping, fishing, and the outdoors were favorites of Monica. She found comfort in sewing, donating her blankets to Carrie Tingley Hospital.
She was generous and caring; she will be greatly missed.
A Rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters on Saturday, October 22, 2022, 10:00 a.m. with Mass to follow, 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 11 St. Anthony's Loop, St Anthony's Loop, Pecos, NM.
