Moneer Hindi

Moneer Hindi passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024. He was born in Duran, New Mexico on August 13, 1929. Moneer graduated from high school in Vaughn, New Mexico. After serving in the Navy, he enrolled at New Mexico State University and received an Electrical Engineering degree. He was preceded in death by his parents Milhem (William) and Rasmie Hindi; brothers Basheer Hindi, Baheej Hindi, Shawkeet Hindi and Ficel Hindi; sisters Monira Hindi-Green and Fareeza Hindi Belcher; nephews Milhem Green and Norbert Green; nieces Mary Elizabeth Green, Dali Su Hindi and Lori Hindi, and grand-niece Jenifer Hale. He is survived by his brother Azeez Hindi and sister Lila Hindi, sisters-in-law Jody Hindi and Lois Hindi; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

The Hindi family settled in New Mexico prior to statehood. Moneer’s father owned the general store in Duran. Moneer worked on the Gemini, Apollo and Challenger missions in the early 1960’s and was instrumental in putting the first astronauts in space and on the moon. After his retirement in the mid 80’s he returned to Albuquerque and helped manage his brothers' family businesses.

A visitation will held on Wednesday, November 6 at 10:00 a.m. at French Funeral Home-Lomas Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. After the service will be a reception at French Funerals & Cremations - Lomas. Following the reception a burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque.
