Mona Colene "Pete" Hawkes

Mona Colene "Pete" Hawkes, 86, passed away November 15, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Hawkes, in 2010. She is survived by her daughters; Paula Morris (Kelly) of Edgewood, NM; Mona Poniske of Tucson, AZ; Ann Farrar (Douglas) of Albuquerque, and Mary Hawkes (Jerry Folts) of the family home. Mona also is survived by grandchildren, Christine Garcia (Aurelio), Elizabeth Morin (Benjamin), Richard Poniske (Nikki Cronin), Robert Hawkes, Sara Frederick (Dave), Alejandro Farrar (Sarah), Daryl DeGraaf, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin sister, Norma Pauline Henson of Frisco, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ms. Hawkes spent most of her life as a homemaker, but had worked for 10 years at Spartan Technology in Rio Rancho. When they lived in Alamogordo, she was active in the Alamogordo Women's Club. She was a funny and resilient woman, who loved to share her wisdom and stories. She was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to accommodate family and friends from all over the country who wish to attend. Memorial contributions may be made to your local American Heart Association, Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 26666, Albuquerque, NM 87125-6666, or the donor's favorite charity. There will be a small Celebration of Life on her birthday, December 10, 2015. A Memorial Service will be Friday, April 15, 2016, 1:00 p.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
