Mildred Leverette

Mildred Chiasson Leverette, age 92, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away with grace and courage Friday, January 22, 2021.

Millie was born in Lafayette, Louisiana to a large Cajun family, where she was raised by her father and elder siblings.  At 17, she met and married an Air Force pilot, John Leverette, from Georgia, and together, they reared their family of four in various locations across the U.S. and Germany.

Millie loved to get her hands in the soil and tend to her beautiful garden.  She also enjoyed sewing, keeping a tidy home, and cooking Sunday meals for her family. Millie will be remembered by many for her affectionate and tenacious spirit. She gave the best hugs and head massages; and showered kisses on everyone she loved.

Mildred is survived by her beloved children, Nita Smentek, Pamela Rowe, and Bobby Leverette; her grandchildren, Chantel Incaudo, Nichole Cortese, Larissa Ritter, Leslie Rowe, and Kelly Neff; and 11 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her nieces and nephews in Colorado and Louisiana. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, John, to whom she was married for 73 years; and a son, Robby, who died during childhood.

Also touching her life were a team of selfless and loving caregivers who Millie cherished as family.

Our family would like to give special thanks to Dawn Wilson and Alissa Goodwin, Rebecca Crago, and the exceptional staff at Elmcroft of Quintessence and the Hospice of New Mexico for their enduring support and kindness.

Mildred will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with her husband, Lieutenant Colonel John R. Leverette.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests a donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
