Mildred Giller

January 22, 1920 — November 16, 2012

Our dearly beloved wife and mother quietly passed away on November 16, 2012 at the age of 92 at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born on January 22, 1920 to Linnie (nee Kimsey) and Herman Schmidt of Grants Pass, Oregon. She lived her young life in Grants Pass and received her BA in Home Economics from Oregon State University. She was employed as an airline stewardess when she met her husband, Edward, during World War II. As a fighter pilot in the war, he christened his airplane after her, the "Millie G". She is survived by her husband Edward Giller and their five children; Susan Giller with her partner Paula, Carol (Giller) Gajdosik with her husband Rich and their children - Robyn (Gajdosik) Lance and her husband Nate and their son Wyatt - Kelly (Gajdosik) Faris and her husband Ryan with their sons Rhys and Kellen, Bruce Giller with his wife Jane and their daughter Nikki, Penny Giller; and Paul Giller with his wife Katy and their children - Alex, Brookes, Zoe and Graham. After raising her children in Illinois, New Mexico and Virginia, she received her Master's in Women's Studies from George Washington University. She was a marvelous wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, cook, seamstress and homemaker. With her husband, and later her children, she traveled about the world. She loved books and was always reading 3 or 4 at a time. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Services will be held at Hope in the Desert Church, 8700 Alameda Blvd. NE, on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15p.m. A reception will follow at 6:00 p.m. at 14415 Soula NE.
