Mike García, a resident of Corrales, NM, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 7, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born Miguel Elú García on March 7, 1928, in San Ysidro, NM to Simón and Benita García. For the first 9 years of his life Mike was raised by his beloved grandparents, Román and Lucinda García. Mike attended grade school in San Ysidro, and Cañon. He later attended high school at El Rito Normal School.

After graduation in 1946, Mike enlisted in the US Navy, serving on board the destroyer, USS Dennis Buckley in the Pacific, and Asia. After a 2-year tour of duty, he returned to New Mexico and found employment with the Santa Fe Railroad as an apprentice Carman in 1949. He remained with the Railroad, at the Albuquerque rail yards for 40 years until retirement in 1989. In 1951 Mike married Margie García, his girlfriend from back home in San Ysidro, raising four children, building a life and home in the Albuquerque north valley while remaining connected to his family and the land in San Ysidro. He raised cattle on his rancho in San Ysidro, and Cabezón for most of his life. Mike was an avid fisherman and hunter enjoying family camping trips, and hunting with his father, brothers, and son.

Mike and Margie traveled to Europe on various trips to Spain, Portugal, and Italy.  They also traveled to Costa Rica, and all over the United States, including Alaska during many memorable vacations.

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Román and Lucinda García; parents, Simón, and Benita García; sister, Sally Yguado; brothers, Bobby, and Phil García; and his beloved granddaughter, Celina Romero.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margie García; children, Michael García (Theresa), Dolores Trujillo (Ted), Lorraine García (Mark Groves), and Michelle García (Andrew Benson); grandchildren, Gabriel García (Yvonne), Roman García, Jeffrey Ortíz, Nathan Ortíz, Alex Ortíz, Alegra Dunn, Felice Dunn, and Owen Dunn; great-grandchildren, Olivia García, Santiago García, Julian Romero, Vanessa Lucero, Aubrey Reeves, and Madyson Ortíz; and great-great-grandson, Joaquín García. Also survived by his sisters, Martha Alderete, Tillie López, Esther Naranjo, and Maria Hartranft. Also survived by his brother-in-law, and sisters-in-law, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers are Gabriel García, Roman García, Jeffrey Ortíz, Nathan Ortíz, Alex Ortíz, Owen Dunn.

Honorary Pallbearers are Olivia García, Julian Romero, Santiago García, Vanessa Lucero, Alegra Dunn, and Felice Dunn.

A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 9:30 a.m., and Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., at San Ysidro Catholic Church, 5015 Corrales Road, Corrales, NM, a reception will follow the mass at the San Ysidro Parish Hall.

Burial will take place after the reception at Mount Calvary in Albuquerque.
