Michael Clarence Taylor, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 22, 1937 in Lufkin, Texas to Matthew Clarence (“Zack”) and Bonnie Nell (Crumpler) Taylor. Mike grew up in Houston, Texas with his two brothers, J Robert and Gary Zack Taylor. After graduating high school, Mike attended Lon Morris Jr. College in Houston, Texas where he met his sweetheart Eunice Earlene (Nikki) Hancock. They fell in love and married on December 6, 1957. Mike went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in accounting at University of Houston. Together, Mike and Nikki had four children. They enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. Music was one of Mike’s biggest passions. He was active for over 30 years with the New MexiChords Barbershop Chorus, where he made lifelong friendships. One of his greatest accomplishments was singing with his quartet, the Brass Rail. This talented group were the recipients of multiple Senior Championship competition awards. Mike also served 25 years as an official for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
He is survived by his brother, Gary; sons, Michael Glenn (Susan), Marcus Neill, and daughter, Melanie Paige (David) Summers; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by Nikki, his wife of 49 years, his parents, Zack and Bonnie; brother, J; and daughter, Marie Elizabeth (stillborn in 1965). Mike will be remembered for his engaging smile, as a lover of music and books, and by his many friends and family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Dr. NE Albuquerque, NM 87111.
