Michael Richards, 65 was called to his eternal resting place on November 22, 2018. He entered this world on November 22, 1953. He is survived by his soulmate and love of his life, Diana Lucero; his sons, Alex Richards and Adam Richards; daughter, Angela Richards Hughes and son-in-law Patrick Hughes; mother of his children, Gail Peabody Richards; step-daughters, Melanie Mang and husband T.J. and Valerie Popadiuc and husband Vasile; grandchildren, Bosten Richards, Jayden and Jasmine Mang, and Valentine, Vivienne and Viana Popadiuc; sister, Linnette Richards, sister Cheryl Hogate and husband Ross, and Denise Richards Sirmans and husband Timothy; Nephews, Scott Richards and wife Selena, Brian Richards, Daniel Richards and wife Wendy, Andrew Richards, Joshua Richards and wife Marcy, Jason Richards and wife Diona, Robert Chavez and David Taylor Puckett; Nieces, Melody Richards, Jeannette Hogate, Charlotte Hogate and Nicole Chavez; Aunt Bea and Uncle Phil Carabajal, Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Don Kimbro and Aunt Ruby Richards; Cousins, Priscilla Madrid Lopez, Laura and Scott Baker, Karen and Greg Chase, Karol and Coulter Morgan, Jeff and Lori Carabajal, Phil and Kim Carabajal, Lawrence and Theresa Carabajal, Andrea Carabajal and Leo Tafoya, Bruce Strickman, Cindi and Paul Orias, Diane and Curtis Caulkins, John Valdez, Jeanikra Richards, Jeanine Richards, Jerrod Richards, Janelle Richards, and Melissa Richards and many more 2nd cousins, great nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Richards and Angie Richards, brother Ralph Richards, Uncle Marty Richards and Aunt Delores Richards. Michael had over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, both hands on in the field and in management. After a successful partnership with his friend Joey Quintana, where he was president of their company New Age Builders, he moved on to create his current remodeling company Rich Built, Inc. which specializes in residential construction. Prior to his involvement in construction he was a general manager at the retail level for eight years and was a firefighter with AFD for three years. He became an active member of the Home Builders Association of CNM. He chaired the Home Builders Care program and the Remodelers Council as well as serving on many other committees. He received the President’s Award in 2006 and became President in 2007. Soon thereafter he received the Builder of the Year Award and made his way in to the Builder Hall of Fame. He went on to participate at the state level, NMHBA where he sat on the Government Affairs Committee and Board of Directors. He became president in 2012. He received the Don Martin Leadership Award and continued as a Life Director. On the national level he served on the Board of Directors and the Remodelers Councils Board of Trustees. He was awarded the title of Life Director by NAHB. He was born in Albuquerque and grew up in Los Angeles where he spent time with great friend Victor Deboyona and the members of The Groove. Michael was a loving, caring, dedicated family man with a contagious laugh and had mastered the famous “Richards Wit”. He wore the title of “Grumpa” with pride to the content of his grandchildren. He loved writing, playing and recording music with his great friends Tony Farrington and Ken Kugler. He also enjoyed his many moments with Steve Spensley and all of his HBA family. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Westside. A Rosary will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. with a Mass to follow at 10:00 am at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd, NW Albuquerque, NM 87114.
