Michael Phillip Montoya

Michael P. Montoya, age 66, lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 43 years who was his best friend and the love of his life, Roni M. Montoya of Albuquerque; sisters, Juanita Baca, Luella Kramer (Carveth), Linda Sanchez (Larry), Dora Gunckel (Fred), Marie Rendon (Jose), and Julie Will (Max); brother, Richard Montoya (Teresa); sisters-in-law, Priscilla Mathews (Doug), Sandra Anaya (LuAnn), Barbara Anaya, and Dorothy Montoya; brother-in-law, Larry Anaya; godchildren, Carla Montoya, Carlo Rendon, Sara Espinosa, Carmelo Chavez, and Bailey Chavez-Montoya; and his dear ones, Elisa Chavez, Amberley Luna, and Makilo Chavez; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Leonides Montoya; brother, Ernest Montoya; in-laws, Arthur and Carmen Anaya; brothers-in-law, Phillip Baca, Tom Anaya, Arthur Anaya Jr., and Gilbert Anaya; sister-in-law, Beverly Anaya; nephews, Ernest Jr., Rick, and Steven; and niece, Karen.

Michael served in the US Army, was a union bricklayer for over 15 years, and a bus driver with YDI for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and belonged to many ministries. He had a special affinity for his neighborhood and was loved and revered by many. He was an avid, passionate Dallas Cowboy fan.

A visitation will be on Monday, November 29, 2021, 5:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH-University. A Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, 8:30 a.m. with a mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 820 Broadway SE. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith NE. Pallbearers are Carlo Rendon, Patrick Rendon, Michael Chavez-Montoya, Carmelo Chavez, Max Jaramillo, and Will Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law to include Benito Espinosa, Ruben Chavez and longtime friends, Roger Garcia and Daniel Baca.
