Michael James McLaughlin

Michael James McLaughlin, Jr., 91, our family’s patriarch, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.  Michael was honorably discharged from the US Navel Service in 1946, moved with his family from their home in Weston, WV to Albuquerque, NM in 1953 and retired from Sandia National Laboratories.  He was active for many years with Search and Rescue here in New Mexico and was a member of the Upper Rio FM Society.  Michael was happiest hiking the wilderness, roaming the country in his RV or sitting at the helm of his sailboat; these moments made special when shared with family and friends.  Michael and his wife Caryl Jean were married for 58 years, prior to her passing in 2007.  His is survived by his children and their spouses/ partners Barbara Ann and Howard Karnes, Mary Lou and Mark Murayama, Cathleen and Steve Parmentier, James McLaughlin and Patti Holmes, Robert and Laurali McLaughlin, Nancy and Dan Zeller, and Sandra McLaughlin and Clark Beckett; as well as 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Edward McLaughlin, sister-in-law Barbara Ellen Linger, and niece Mary Margaret McLaughlin.  He also leaves his brother’s children Joseph, Jacqueline, and John; along with brother-in-law Kenneth Linger, his daughters Caryl Ann, Linda Lou and Alice Lea together with their families.  The Family would like to thank Anita D’Antonio and the staff at Casa Subina Residential Care along with the staff of Hospice de la Luz for their loving care of our father.  Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2018, at 6:00 p.m.  FRENCH – Wyoming with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, April 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE.  Memorial contributions may be made to New Mexico Search and Rescue Council, PO Box 3396, Albuquerque, NM 87190 or www.nmsarc.org.  Please visit our online guestbook for Michael at www.FrenchFunerals.com
