Michael Avram Klein, 72, son of the late Herbert and Claire Klein, brother of Francine Cohen (Harvey Cohen) passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Born prematurely in New York at the precarious birthweight of only 3 lbs. 2 oz. he proved to be strong and resilient. As a preteen, Michael and his family moved to Denver, where he continued his education and excelled in the study of history and literature.
After college graduation, Michael served overseas in the US Navy as a line officer onboard the USS Oldendorf, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. While in service, Michael acted as Electrical Officer, Communications Officer, and Deck Officer during different duty periods.
Following his service, Michael moved to Albuquerque where he worked as the Information Technology Analyst for various medical departments at Lovelace Health Systems and Presbyterian Hospital.
Michael was a 45-year participant in the Society for Creative Anachronism, where he earned entrance into Knighthood for martial prowess and chivalry, and into the Order of the Pelican for exemplary service to his fellows. The friendships he made in the society lasted his lifetime, and served as his large extended family.
Michael was an avid student of history, a man of deep principle, and an upright and gracious host to all who shared his table. Up until his death, he was quite fond of photographs of New Mexico history and wildlife. He valued duty, honor, and service to country.
Michael Klein will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
