Meredith Catherine Somers

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Meredith in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Sunday July 17, 2016. Meredith was predeceased by her Mom, Maureen, and grandparents, Walt and Marion Gibson and George and Mary Somers. She is survived by her immediate family: father, Don (Georgie Partridge), brother Jon (Eileen, Walter and George) and sister Marnee.
Meredith was born in Toronto and grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She graduated from Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon. In her early years, she found a love of sports participating in competitive swimming with the Saskatoon Goldfins, volleyball, basketball and later on soccer. She loved playing, coaching and watching sports.
Meredith's generosity and love for people led to her pursuit of nursing. She received her RN designation from Kelsey Institute (SaskPolytech), her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Victoria and her master's degree (Nurse Practitioner) from St. Francis University in Chicago. Meredith's nursing experience was varied and extensive. She worked in Pediatrics at Royal University Hospital and at the northern nursing station in Buffalo Narrows. In 2001, she accepted a position in the trauma center at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This was followed by a period as a flight nurse with Lifeguard Air Ambulance Emergency Services in Taos, New Mexico. She returned to Albuquerque as a nursing instructor at the Central New Mexico Community College while she completed her graduate degree. Following graduation as a nurse practitioner, she worked with the Manzano Medical Group in rehabilitation and occupational medicine.
When Meredith was not working, she spent time with her dogs, expanded her love of music or enjoyed an adventure in the great outdoors. She led a very dynamic life that unfortunately was mixed with health conditions. In recent months, Meredith's health was compromised by the disease Myasthenia Gravis.
Meredith was a kind, generous and supportive daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Her time with us was cut short, but her accomplishments and the lives she touched are endless. She will be sadly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held for her friends and colleagues in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Wednesday July 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Westside, 9300 Golf Course Road NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. A second Memorial Service will follow on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the Saskatoon Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
