Mercy Portillo

Mercy Portillo (Ramirez), 81, passed away on March 22, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born on February 11, 1944, in Albuquerque and remained deeply connected to her roots throughout her life.

Mercy was a devoted and loving woman who found joy in caring for others. She had a generous heart and always welcomed people into her home with warmth and kindness. Her love for cooking and baking brought family and friends together, filling her home with the comforting aromas of homemade meals and sweet treats. She also had a passion for bowling, enjoying the camaraderie and competition it provided. Mercy proudly supported her husband George who served 22 years in the US Army. The Army allowed for traveling across the country with her family creating cherished memories that will be treasured by those who shared in those adventures.

She was born and raised in the Catholic faith, which remained an important part of her life. Her faith guided her actions and strengthened the love she shared with those around her.

Mercy is survived by her children, Raymond Portillo, Manuel Portillo, and Margaret Ortiz; her grandsons, Anthony Portillo, Dominic Portillo, Christopher Portillo, and Andrew Portillo; her great-grandson, Mateo Portillo; her brother, Lorenzo Ramirez; and sister, Rosemary Rodarte. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George V. Portillo; her parents, Patricio and Ventura Ramirez; as well as her brothers, Martin, Patricio, Jesse, Julian, and Johnny Ramirez.

A Rosary will be held Monday, March 31, 2025, 7:00 p.m., at FRENCH - University, with a visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2025, 9:00 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM 87501.

Mercy's legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
