Melissa Sabie Brightwell, 47, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away September 11, 2016. Melissa was born in Frankfurt, Germany at the Rhein-Main Air Base to Harry E. Brightwell and Lillie Garcia Meyers (Brightwell). Her father, an honored 24-year Army veteran (CWO4), predeceased her by 14 years. Lillie, who predeceased Melissa by just a few days, was a loving mother to her.
After graduating Manzano High School, Melissa attended CNM to achieve her dream of becoming a registered nurse. She was devoted to taking care of her mother, who had been ill for several years. Melissa had a loving heart and she cared deeply for animals and nature. She is survived by her sisters, Marie Brightwell McMillian, husband Don McMillian, Jr., and Sandra Brightwell Potter, husband James Kent Potter; and her nieces, Lauren McMillian, Michelle McMillian, Jordan Potter, Julie Potter and Laura Potter. Melissa is also survived by six aunts and uncles and numerous cousins. She also leaves behind her stepmother, Barbara Brightwell.
The combined service for Melissa, and her mother, Lillie Meyers, will be held September 24, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH - University, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM.
