Maydelle Ruth Meier, age 89, passed away on July 3, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM. Maydelle was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Her main interests were photography, genealogy, water color painting and travel.
She served in the Red Cross in the 1950’s during the Korean War. She was blessed to travel the world, spending most of her time in South Korea, Morocco, and France. Born in Illinois in 1928 her family later moved to Portales, NM. Maydelle graduated from Eastern New Mexico University and went on to obtain her Masters of Arts at the University of Denver. She moved with her husband to Albuquerque, NM in 1961 where she resided until her death. She taught Kindergarten her entire career and was on the ground floor of establishing a kindergarten program in Valencia County. Maydelle retired in the 1980’s and continued to teach young children through Orff workshops.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Meier and her children, Rici and Johnelle Gonzales, and her son, David Meier, his wife, Sheryl and their children, DJ and Ben. Maydelle is preceded in death by her father, Ben Peck Smith; mother, Deborah Nevius Smith; and her son, Dale Meier.
Services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017, 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, 11750 San Victorio Ave NE in Albuquerque.
