Maurice “Morey” Carpenter was born on July 20th, 1941, in San Diego, California, and passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, at home with his wife, son and daughter by his side.
He is predeceased by his parents, Maurice Layton, and Josephine Carpenter, and brother Larry Carpenter. Maurice is survived by his beautiful wife of 62 years, Susan L Carpenter, sisters Julie (Jim) Owens, Sharon Harrison and his son Greg (Kimberly) Carpenter and daughter Cari (Jude) Laris. He loved all his grandchildren; Connor (Mackenzie), Nathaniel, Seth Carpenter, Marissa (Elijah) Binasiewicz, Ryan, Jacob (Crina) Laris and great grandchildren Ariyel, Ava, Elsie Laris.
Maurice and Susan grew up in Roswell, NM and both attended Roswell HS, class of 1959, where they met and began their life’s adventures together. Maurice went to University of New Mexico where he played football and enjoyed a long career selling Property and Casualty Insurance. Dad was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys, Boston Red Sox, Ted Williams, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas. He loved to golf with his buddies and go hiking with Mom and travel. Dad and Mom both loved attending their church of almost 42-years Heights Cumberland Presbyterian where they were both very active. People were always drawn to his blunt and to the point personality pared with a very dry-quick sense of humor.
Maurice was dearly loved by all his family and close friends., We will miss his passionate critiques of Joe Buck during a Cowboys broadcast. Above all his love for the Lord will live on through many generations of Carpenters and Laris, as for Dad and His house we will all serve the Lord, what a legacy!
A celebration of Maurice’s life will be on Friday October 18th, 11:00 AM, at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy Rd NE. A private family burial will precede the celebration of life.
