Services are scheduled for Mattie Lee Donham Cravey at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the FRENCH - Wyoming Chapel on 7121 Wyoming NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Visitation will be held 6:00 - 9:00 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at FRENCH - Wyoming. Mrs. Cravey was 83 years old when she passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 in Albuquerque surrounded by her loving family. Services will be officiated by Pastor Garland Peek of Sandia Baptist Church with interment at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque. Pallbearers will be Hunter Cravey, Daniel Christensen, Kyle Trammel, David Patterson, Andrew Patterson, and Wade Ellis. Mattie Cravey was born November 26, 1930, on the Berry farm near Dexter, NM to Robert Lee Donham and Mattie Mae Weaver Donham. She was united in marriage to William Herman Cravey in Sheffield, TX on October 17, 1948 at the Mother Holmes Memorial Baptist Church where they met in Sunday School. Mattie grew up and attended grade school in Moran, TX and high school in Albany, TX where she was a softball player and cheerleader. She was baptized in 1939 at First Baptist Church in Moran, TX. She graduated from Iraan High School in 1948 where she also was a cheerleader. While in Hobbs, NM she enjoyed accounting and computer courses at New Mexico Junior College. She began her married life in Sheffield, TX. Her husband's career in oil and gas production then took the family to Pecos, TX for five years, Artesia, NM for ten years and finally Hobbs, NM for forty years. Her favorite activities included her daily Bible study and prayer time, gardening and playing softball in the Artesia Women's Softball League where she was a pitcher and rarely played a game without making a home run. Mattie was a faithful member at both Emmanuel (now West Main) Baptist Church in Artesia and Northside Baptist (now Crosswinds Community) Church in Hobbs. She taught Sunday School and Bible study for over 50 years. Mattie's greatest joy was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include three children, Annette Cravey Patterson and husband Randy of Artesia, NM, Joy Lynn Cravey Ellis and husband Johnny of Del Rio, TX and William Ray Cravey and wife Donna of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Trammell of Loveland, CO, Wade Ellis of Rio Rancho, NM, Diana Christensen of Farmington, NM, David Patterson of Sahuarita, AZ, Andrew Patterson of Albuquerque, NM, William Hunter Cravey of Lubbock, TX and Amanda Cravey of Albuquerque, NM; twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved and enjoyed. She was preceded in death by her husband William Herman Cravey and infant grandson Frank Barnett Ellis.
