Matthew Kulek

Matthew John Kulek, age 51, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019. He was born to parents Linda (Holthaus) Kulek and Robert Earl Kulek Jr. on Saturday, December 16, 1967, at Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1986. He went on to study engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering. Matthew had a successful career working in the avionics industry for over 28 years. A senior technical manager with Honeywell, Matthew had just relocated the family to Phoenix, Arizona.

Matthew met his wife, Susan Humble, in 1991. They were married on August 13, 1994, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Together they raised three children: Ashley, Andrew, and Michael. Matthew dedicated time to his children’s varied activities by coaching soccer, getting them to and from practices, games, and meets. Committed to serving youth, he also enjoyed spending time with St. John’s youth group and volunteering with the USA Track and Field (USATF). He enjoyed spending time with his family and always had a story about his childrens’ recent adventures and accomplishments. As a Nebraska Huskers fan, if he couldn’t attend the game in person, he could be found watching them on television.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Kulek Jr.; grandfather, Robert Kulek Sr.; and grandparents, John and Bernice Holthaus. He is survived by his wife, Susan Kulek; daughter, Ashley Kulek; sons, Andrew and Michael Kulek; mother, Linda (Holthaus) Kulek; sister, Lisa (Kulek) Markle, and husband, Patrick Markle; grandmother, Rosemarie Kulek Thomsen; and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona St. NE Albuquerque, NM 87110, with reception to follow.
