Matina Mallory, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on Sunday, May 23rd, 2021.
Matina was known for her positive outlook on life, her gentle heart and kindness, and her deep love and compassion for all.
She was always up for any adventure dreamed up by her children and grandchildren.
Matina was born in Washington DC but spent much of her childhood in Trikala and Metsovo, Greece before and during WWII. Her father was able to return to America, and the rest of the family planned to follow shortly after but was unable to. The American government banned travel for its citizens after several ships had been sunk. This kept the family apart for almost 10 years.
When Matina and her family were finally able to return to America in 1946, they discovered that Matina's father had died during the war.
Matina graduated high school in the US and attended Strayer University where she received a bachelor's degree in accounting. She also met her husband, Harry, during her time at Strayer. Harry and Matina worked hard, sacrificed, raised a family, and had many fun and exciting adventures together. They were married in 1952 and moved to Albuquerque several years later in 1960.
Matina loved St. George Church, Philoptochos & Daughters of Penelope, baking for the Greek Festival with her dear friends, short sermons, and seeing her grandchildren anytime, but especially Greek dancing.
She met Eleanor Roosevelt, worked in the Pentagon, worked for the Air Force, and devoted herself to her husband, children, and her mother.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her brother, James Nacos; her mother, Maria Nicolopoulos; and her grandson, Beau Arellano.
Pall Bearers will be most of her grandchildren: Anna Mallory, Alexandra Arellano, Ashley Pendell, Bernardo Diaz, Brandon Pendell, Kyle Mooday, Maria Mallory, Paul Mallory, Sean Mallory, Shannon Palermo, and Tara Mallory.
She is also survived by Gary & Thoula Mallory, Shirley & Bob Arellano, Keith & Sandra Mallory, Kevin, Gabrielle, Harrison(Megan), Blaise & Rowen Mallory, and Great grandchildren Hayden, Jacob, Aida and Grace.
