Our dear mother and closest friend, Matilda (Tillie) Causey, left this world on Saturday, June 25, 2022. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother that was born to immigrant parents who came from Yugoslavia. Her parents, Paul and Angelina Mataya settled in the small mining community of Dawson, New Mexico where Matilda was born on Sunday, September 10, 1922. After graduating from high school, Tillie moved to Albuquerque, where she attended nursing school. During her studies, she met the love of her life Marvin Causey on a blind date. After seeing each other for a few short weeks, they were married and shortly after moved to Norfolk, Virginia. Later they returned to Albuquerque to be close to their friends and family where their marriage lasted over 79 years.
During their marriage, Marvin and Tillie had five children and formed lifelong friendships locally and throughout the US. Prior to making the decision to become a full-time homemaker and mother, Tillie worked as a buyer for Mindlin Jewelers. While devoting her time to her family, she also enjoyed serving as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital for over 20 years. Tillie loved life, had a wonderful sense of humor, always had a smile on her face, and was an avid bridge player. Though she never played tennis or golf, she loved watching the sports. Anyone who entered their home knew they were welcome anytime and no one was ever turned away.
Matilda was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; parents, Paul and Angelina Mataya; sons, Floyd and Paul Causey; and brothers, Charles and John Mataya. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Bootzin, Michele and Wes Goodson, and Patricia and Marv Newton; daughter-in-law, Ginger Causey; grandchildren, Joshua Bootzin, Kevin Causey, Andrea Kachelmeier, Tracy Meier, Michael Newton, and Robert Newton; and ten great-grandchildren.
