Josefina Pimentel, co-founder of Pimentel Guitars and the cherished matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 23, 2025, at the age of 97.
Born in Ault, Colorado, Josefina married her beloved husband, Lorenzo Pimentel, in 1949. Together, they built a life rooted in love, resilience, and extraordinary craftsmanship. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to El Paso, Texas, where they resided for a few years. They later relocated to Carlsbad, New Mexico, before finally settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where their dream of manufacturing world class guitars became a reality. Josefina's unwavering support and dedication made her the backbone of both her family and their flourishing business.
Through Pimentel Guitars, Josefina and Lorenzo created a legacy of art and music that continues to resonate around the world. Their sons, Ricardo, Robert, and Victor, proudly carry on the craft, designing and selling handmade guitars cherished by musicians everywhere. Her sons Hector and Gustavo honor her legacy as both guitar teachers and performers, sharing the gift of music with future generations.
Josefina's love and guidance extended beyond her role in the family business. She was the devoted mother of 12 children, raising them with care and instilling in them a deep sense of family, creativity, and perseverance. She is preceded by her husband, Lorenzo, and her two sons, Oscar and Augustin; and her grandson, Marco. She survived by her children, Carlos, spouse, Maria Louisa, Hector, spouse, Carol, Ricardo, spouse, Jean, Robert, spouse, Elizabeth, Zoyla, spouse, George, Maricela, Victor, spouse, Paula, Aida, Lawrence, spouse, Laykea, and Gustavo. Along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Josefinas passions were traveling and playing guitar. Her life was a testament to hard work, creativity, and unconditional love-a legacy that will continue to inspire all who carry her memory forward. May she rest in peace.
A celebration of Josefina's life will be held in Albuquerque, where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable journey, her impact on the world of music, and the enduring love she shared with everyone around her.
