Mary Kate Hopkins

Heaven gained a witty, one-of-a-kind angel on January 31, 2018, she was 94. Those who knew her will never forget her. Mary Kate will always be "fine as frog's hair." We will always remember the twinkle in her eye, her strong faith, devotion to Jesus, her love of the Blessed Mother, her familiar sayings, her strong will, her repertoire of piano songs and show tunes, and her sunny disposition. She was a beloved sister, wife, aunt, daughter and friend who will be missed more than words can convey. Mary Kate was born April 25, 1923 in Henderson, KY. She met her husband, Louis Allen (Hoppy) Hopkins in 1944 at the Army Air base in Orlando, FL. They were married in 1945 and settled in Corrales, NM in 1946. Mary Kate and Hoppy traveled extensively in and out of the US in their airplane. They were active in the town of Corrales as well as in the greater Albuquerque community. Mary Kate served on the Governor's Committee on Children and Youth, as a Gray Lady at Red Cross Veterans Hospital (with her dog BJ), and on the National Advisory Committee for WAIF (World Adoption International Fund) a part of International Social Service. She received a Commendation for Outstanding Community Service from the Legislature of the State of New Mexico in 1997 for her work on a New Mexico adoption law.

Mary Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Allen (Hoppy) Hopkins; her parents, James Leo Manion and Blanche Haley Manion; her sisters, Jeanne Manion Delker, Ruth Manion Clements, and her brother James Leo Manion Jr. Mary Kate is survived by her sister-in-law, Camille Manion of Dallas; nieces, Jeanne Gale Delker, Deanna Delker Smith, and Mary Manion Fent; nephews, Frank Delker, Jim Delker, and Mike Manion as well as eight grand nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be held Monday, February 19, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m at San Ysidro Church, 5015 Corrales Rd, Corrales, NM 87048. Memorial contributions (in lieu of flowers) may be made to Centro Savila to support The Hopkins Center for Children and Families, 1317 Isleta Blvd SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105.
