Mary "Dot" Brantley, 98, died January 13, 2019.
Dot was born in Ohio but her family moved to Evanston, IL, where she spent most of her childhood. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology then joined the US Civil Service and went overseas, just after the end of World War II. Dot spent time in Japan and Germany where she met C.L. Brantley, an Air Force NCO. They were married in Massachusetts and were stationed at several locations, mostly in the western part of the U.S. While stationed at Kirtland AFB, Dot worked at the Base library and Base Exchange. She and C.L. retired in Albuquerque and lived here many years.
Mrs. Brantley is survived by her daughter, Sandra, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2011 and she continued to live on her own until last year.
Dot learned to play both piano and organ at a young age, was fond of big band and jazz music and loved to dance. She enjoyed being around people and was always ready to go out shopping or for meals. Dot was never without a cup of black coffee anytime, day or night. She is remembered for her sense of humor, for being outspoken, and always being available for her friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Brookdale Assisted Living, 300 Valencia Drive SE.
