Trujillo, Mary
On February 2, 2016, Maria Montiel de Trujillo, age 93, our beloved sister, aunt, and family matriarch went to see the face of God after a long and fruitful life. Mary, a nonagenarian and 3rd Order Franciscan, was born October 30, 1922 in High Rolls, NM to Juan Evangelista Montiel and Juliana Montes, who preceded her in death in 1973 and 1993, respectively. As a child she learned Spanish as her first language and moved with her family to Albuquerque. On December 26, 1940 she married Felipe G. Trujillo of Jarales at Sacred Heart Parish. He served in World War II and they lived together in Belen and Joplin, MO, before his deployment to Germany. After the death of her husband she dedicated her life as her mother's caregiver, a parishioner and cook at St. Therese Parish in Albuquerque since 1966, was consecrated a 3rd Order Franciscan in 1972 where she took the name Clara, a member of Gold Star Wives, and for the last 20 years she was a member of Court Santa Maria, No. 317, Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
She was preceded in death by Mr. Trujillo in 1966; as well as her siblings, Lucia Serna (1934), Juan Magdaleno Montiel (1934), Lola Garcia (2014), Nelly Chavez (2003), and Tomasa Gomez (2014). Her youngest brother, Luis Montiel and wife, Dolores, survive her along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
Deacon Juan Manuel Cabrera will recite her Rosary on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow immediately by Rev. Erasmo Romero, OFM, at St. Therese Parish, 300 Mildred Ave NW. A private interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband of 25 years. Pallbearers will be Marcelo Cabrera, Nicolas Cabrera, Felipe Montiel, Joseph Montiel, Steven Montiel and Justin Pettit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Casa Angelica in her name.
