Mary Stella (Garcia) Duran

Mary Stella Garcia Duran died on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born to Anastacio Garcia and Clotilde Gallegos Garcia on May 22, 1928 in Tucumcari, NM.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Fred (Bascillo) Garcia, Vincent (Chente) Garcia, Natividad (Tive) Montoya, and Josephine (Chefa) Foster.

Mary attended Saint Ann’s Catholic School and Tucumcari Public Schools. She worked at the Two Gun Harry Coffee & Sandwich Shop, the Elks Drug Store, and Lloyds Shoe Store.

Mary married Jerry A. Duran on March 18, 1945 at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church. They raised three Children; Mary Frances, Jerry Richard, and Louella. Mary and Jerry were Mayordomes at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church for many years. Mary was a member of the Order of Carmelites. Mary was also a member of the Family and Friends Costureras that made many beautiful Quilts and Blankets. Mary was also a member of the New Mexico GI Form Auxiliary.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jerry. Children; Mary Frances & Joe Cremer, Jerry Richard & Candy Duran, and Louella & Bruce Bogard. Mary’s Special Nephew Tom & Gloria Mirabal. 9 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, 8 Great-Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Rosary and Mass will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 starting at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church with burial to follow in Tucumcari.
