Mary (Gutierrez, Brusuelas) Salazar was born in Tularosa, NM in January 1919. She went to Tularosa High School where she met Joseph Brusuelas. They married and had three children: Sandra, Lino and Betty Lou. Joseph passed in 1956. Mary put herself through beauty school and after graduation, they offered her a position as an instructor. Betty attended the beauty school, and they opened a salon together in Berkeley. She married Raymond Salazar also from Tularosa High School. They lived a while in California and then moved back to Albuquerque where they purchased a home.
She was a great cook and artist. Always trying something different: making candy, baking cakes and cookies. She sewed and made most of the girls' dresses for school. Mary learned quilting and made several for family. She painted dolls and plaques and gifts for the family. She also knitted and crocheted and made silk ties for Raymond and family members. Later in life she learned to swim and then went swimming almost every day at the Albuquerque Senior Center.
Mary is survived by four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She was loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mary will be laid to rest with her husband Raymond and a private ceremony will take place at a later date.
