Mary Anne Meredith
November 10, 1940-March 5, 2017
Mary Anne Keese was born in Houston, TX to Jerry and Margie Keese. She moved to Dallas when she was two years old, and grew up in a family of four sisters, of whom she was the eldest. She attended school in Dallas and graduated from North Dallas High School and Texas Women's University where she studied Library Science. She was a children's librarian in Dallas when she met David Lee Meredith, whom she married in 1966. They had two children and moved to Albuquerque in 1974.
Mary Anne was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for over 35 years where she served as an Elder. She was a devoted member of Presbyterian Women, serving in many capacities, locally, regionally and nationally. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter X. She volunteered for many community groups, including Cuidando los Niños, and was essential to organizing and running Family Promise of Albuquerque, a homeless sheltering program, at First Presbyterian Church.
Mary Anne was a loving wife of over fifty years to her husband David, a beloved mother to her children, a sister, an aunt and Nana to her grandchildren. She began quilting in her fifties and her ability to create quilts that powerfully combined color and pattern continued to grow into the last year of her life. She made, gifted and donated dozens of quilts that will be treasured by many. She loved books, reading, and talking about books. One of her greatest joys was finding and giving books to the children in her life. She was a member of the same book club for over 15 years. She grew beautiful roses and flowers. Mary Anne was known for her quiet strength, her intelligence, and her many devoted friendships. She lived almost half of her life with rheumatoid arthritis and subsequent kidney disease. She managed her health with stoicism and determination and faced significant health problems in her final months, finally succumbing to heart failure. She spent the last months of her life surrounded by family and loving friends who talked, laughed, and prayed with her. She died peacefully at home.
She is survived by her husband, David Meredith; her son, Scott Meredith; her daughter, Julia Meredith Hess and son-in-law, Matthew Hess; her grandchildren, Benjamin and Lily Hess; her sisters, Kay Tedford Worent, Joan Abramson, and Priscilla Garatti; her sister-in-law, Ann Sears; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
