Mary A. McClure

Mary Adelaide McClure was born in San Diego, California in 1922 to Fred Henry McClure Sr and Mary Louisa Scott McClure. She had four older brothers, Chuck, John, Bill and Fred Jr.

After a few years in San Diego the family moved to Pasadena, CA where Fred Sr had a printing shop. That stay was short and they moved again to Van Nuys, CA where they owned a chicken ranch.

Around 1929, the McClures moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Fred Sr again was a printer and Mary Adelaide went to high school at Notre Dame Academy, a Catholic girls school. During the 1930’s Fred Sr passed away and Mary’s brothers Chuck and John each married, left home and started their own families. Mary Louisa and Mary Adelaide, along with brothers Bill and Fred Jr remained a family, Living in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Mary worked as a bookkeeper at a ball bearing company.

In the late 60’s, brother John’s daughter, Bobbie, and her family moved to Albuquerque. A few years later John and wife, Nellie, followed. Then brother Bill came to retire.

Finally Mary Adelaide came to Albuquerque. She made a career change and became an elementary school teacher at Bluewater Elementary School about 100 miles west of Albuquerque. Mary bought a house in Albuquerque to be near her relatives but drove 100 miles each way to Bluewater, every day, because she loved teaching the young children there.

After retiring from teaching Mary spent time reading, writing letters to family and friends, maintaining her spotless home, and later, researching her family roots. Her last project was collecting and framing memorabilia of her brothers who served in the military.

She passed in her sleep on April 17, 2017 at age 95. Friends and family may visit Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Wyoming. Services will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
