Mary Louise Love

Long time Tucumcari resident, Mary Louise Love, passed away on January 16, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Judge Jake (J. V.) Gallegos and Mary Letcher Gallegos.

Mary Louise was born in Tucumcari, N. M. on February 23, 1932 and graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1949. She attended Loretta Heights College in Denver, Colorado and Texas Women's University in Denton. She taught Wee Wisdom kindergarten in Tucumcari. Later, she worked at the local hospital, was a secretary at her father's law office and volunteered at the library.

She was an avid gardener, harvesting a variety of colorful flowers, vegetables, pecans, and apricots in her yard. Mary Louise loved animals and would take in a stray dog or cat on a regular occasion. Her dog Bear was a companion for many years. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and had been active in the bell choir. She is survived by her brother, Gene Gallegos of Santa Fe, N. M. daughter, Laura Love of Albuquerque, grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 29 at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Rosary will begin at 12:30 p.m. with services immediately following at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to thank her wonderful Tucumcari friends and neighbors for the support you showed her over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to go to Paws and Claws Animal Rescue of Quay County.
