Mary Cleo Joyner of Albuquerque passed away on December 19, 2015, at age 94. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William C. Joyner, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Bill (Charlotte) of Greeley, Colorado, and Barry (Jane Clare) of Springfield, Virginia; four grandsons, Brandon (Molly) of Loveland, Colorado, Blane (Jackie Brown) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Barlen (Courtney) of Greeley, Colorado, and Ben of Springfield, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Lennon, Urijah and Caius, all of Greeley, Colorado; her brother-in-law, Frank Joyner (Mary Ruth) of Flowood, Mississippi; four nieces, a nephew and many dear friends and neighbors.
Cleo was born in Morton, Mississippi, in 1921, the youngest of three children of Walter and Sarah Mahaffey, and was valedictorian of the Morton High School Class of 1940. She married William Joyner in 1946, and moved to New Mexico in 1956, after living in Alabama and Tennessee. She was a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, Jolly Elders and Friends in Christ Sunday School class. She was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star (San Marcial Chapter No. 34 and Estancia Chapter No. 23), serving several times as Worthy Matron of the former Albuquerque Chapter No.67. She was especially proud of serving as Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of New Mexico to the Grand Chapter of Mississippi.
A funeral service will held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution Ave, in Albuquerque, with private interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution Ave., N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87112.
