Maria Antonia Gutierrez Duran (Mary) was called to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 4, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings that died at birth, and brothers, Elfido Gutierrez, Antonio Jose (Tony) Gutierrez and Alisandro (Alex) Gutierrez. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard. She is survived by her children, Sandra Duran Poole and husband Chad and Orlando Duran and wife Sandra; grandchildren, Christian Duran and Lucinda Duran; great-granddaughters, Leyla Livinia and Desaray Elizabeth Cocio; sisters, Molly Romero, Fannie Tafoya, Dolores Gallegos and Rita Medina; brothers, Paul Gutierrez and Ignacio Gutierrez, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was second of 15 live births born to Ignacio Gutierrez and Juanita Chavez Gutierrez in Van Houten in Colfax County, NM. Born in the Great Depression in 1922, she was an incredibly strong woman. She assisted in raising 13 of her siblings and eventually became the matriarch of the family. She worked very hard all her life and lived by her faith. She married Richard in 1951 and moved to Wyoming and eventually returned to New Mexico where their children were born. She was a homemaker where she was happy taking care of her family. She and her husband traveled to Mexico, Canada and various states on vacations with their children. Mary was compassionate and generous. She loved animals and they loved her. She cared for several pets during her lifetime as well as feeding stray animals that came around. In her younger years, she loved to dance and sing. She was funny and fun-loving. She was loved and will truly be missed by all. A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2014, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 11, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at Second Presbyterian Church, 808 Edith Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
