Mary Frances Biering

December 18, 1921 — June 26, 2014

BIERING, MARY FRANCES Age 92, was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Breckenridge HS at age 16. She received a bachelor degree from Texas Woman's University. While attending TWU she was known as Frankie. In 1946 she began her 43 year professional Girl Scout Career. Her love of Girl Scouts started at age 10. Mary received the Golden Eagle Award. Rio Grande Valley Federation of Texas was her first appointment. Later she was a member of the National Staff based in Kansas City and Dallas. In this capacity she organized area councils including those throughout New Mexico. Albuquerque became her home in 1960 when she became Executive Director of Chaparral Council. She served in that capacity until 1989. During the 1960's she was responsible for the acquisition and development of the resident camp in Jemez known as Rancho Del Chaparral. The camp was her passion and love. As a member of the American Camping Association she served as section president and as Accreditation Visitor. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Providence Class. She had been a member of Albuquerque Kiwanis Club and the League of American Voters. She was a member of the Albuquerque Museum Foundation and had served as a Docent. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus E. and Gertrude Hanna Biering; and her brother Gus E. Biering Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law Norma Biering of College Station Texas. Thank you to all the staff at Brookdale Valencia Senior Living for all their care, patience, and support. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at French - University. A private burial will take place at Mission Burial Park - South in San Antonio, Texas.
