Mary was born and raised in Carlsbad, NM and attended Carlsbad High School, where she was very involved in sports and in the social scene including a State Championship in softball. After high school she married Paul Gentry and moved to Dell City, TX where they raised three children on the family’s farm. Dell City was a new community and she was very active in civic activities. She was also very involved in her children’s activities, as she belonged to many of the parent organizations and booster clubs. Mary served as secretary for the school board for many years and for nearly forty years served as a board member with several terms as president of the Dell Valley Hudspeth County Fair. She worked as a secretary at Dell Telephone Cooperative and later at the Hudspeth County Herald. When her kids were grown, she remained active in support of many nieces, nephews and “adoptees.” If there was a need, Mary answered the call without hesitation. Mary’s home was considered the coffee shop of Dell City for friends and family. Mary later moved to Albuquerque, NM where she worked for a period of time for the United States Team Roping Championships and later Intel, in Rio Rancho.
Mary married husband Marvin Bauder in 1997. Marvin and Mary resided at Cedar Crest, NM. They enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states by air and motor home, plus occasional trips to Canada and Mexico with their friends from the east mountains. Mary was a very giving person who, for several years, provided meals and baked goods to shut-ins and people moving in or out of the area as she was notified by the Mountain Christian Church. She loved being in the kitchen and always baked for church functions like the annual Thanksgiving dinner. She loved to cook, and anyone who knew her was able to feel her love through the food she cooked. Mary particularly loved all of her friends and family, and would enjoy visits, phone calls and messages from those whom she loved.
