Marvin Coon

October 20, 1930 — January 5, 2013

Marvin Coon was a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years. He went to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 5, 2013. Marvin was born on October 20, 1930 in Villisca, IA to Fred Coon and Marnice (Findley) Coon. Marvin graduated from high school in Macksburg, IA and went on to graduate from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force in the 1950's during the Korean Conflict. Marvin married Marjorie Fisher in 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha, NE. In 1957, they moved to Albuquerque when Marv joined Sandia National Laboratories. He worked at Sandia Laboratories for 35 years from January 1957 to March 1992, most recently as a Division Supervisor in Benefits. Marvin was a longtime member of Oasis Family Church and devoted Christian husband and father. He enjoyed photography and traveling with his family. Marvin led by example, he was a faithful friend and respected member of his community. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy of Fort Worth, TX and Peggy Irwin and husband Scott of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Tyler Oltmanns of Fort Worth, TX, Amelia Irwin and Jeffrey Irwin, both of Bossier City, LA; great-granddaughter, Madison Oltmanns of Fort Worth, TX; sister-in-law, Helga Fisher of Show Low, AZ; niece, Rochelle Fisher; nephews, Greg Fisher, Alan Fisher, and Bart Fisher; grand-niece, Lyldia Fisher; grand-nephews, Nathan Burch and Daniel Fisher; and other relatives and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Majorie; his parents; and grandson, Daniel Oltmanns. Services will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013, 5:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming with Rev. Tom Undieme officiating. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Animal Humane Society.
