Marthanne Quinlan Cole Reinhard
April 18, 1928 - February 26, 2025
Marthanne was a beautiful soul. As a wonderful mom, wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend to many she packed a lot of love and laughs into her 96+ years with us. She had the gift of hospitality, loved to entertain, and her homes were always places for family and friends to gather over food, drink, games, and skulduggery. She loved her kids fiercely and also her kid's friends... she was a second mom to many.
Marthanne was born in Hopkins Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colorado on April 18, 1928. Her parents were Joseph Patrick Quinlan and Frances Maudelle Cozza. She had an older brother, Joseph Elmer. Marthanne lived in Garfield County until she was 21 years old except the four years (1934-1938) when she lived in Angels Camp, California. She moved back to Garfield County where she attended school graduating from Garfield County High School in 1946. For the next three years she was employed in the County Clerk's office and the Garfield County Abstract Office. Marthanne married Theodore R. Cole in 1949 and moved to Greeley, Colorado. They returned to Garfield County while Ted was employed at the oil shale mining company near Rifle. In late 1951 he accepted a job in Los Alamos, New Mexico where Marthanne lived until 1992.
Marthanne was a stay-at-home mom until 1957 when she became Parish Secretary for Trinity-on-the-Hill Episcopal Church in Los Alamos. In 1965 she accepted employment at the Los Alamos Family Council. In 1977 she was elected to serve as the Los Alamos County Probate Judge and served two two-year terms. She continued to work in the County Manager's office until she was appointed in 1984 by Governor Anaya to complete the unfinished term for Division 1 Magistrate Judge in Los Alamos County. Marthanne went on to be elected to that office for two consecutive four-year terms.
Marthanne married Wayne Reinhard in 1991. She retired, and they moved to Sedona, Arizona. They lived there until 2003 when they moved back to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Marthanne served her communities in many ways. She was active in the churches she attended serving in various capacities, the Sangre de Christo Mental Health Center Board of Directors, the Governor's Task Force on DWI, and the New Mexico Judges Association. Even in her later years, she was certified in Mediation practices, and served as a bailiff for the Bernalillo County court. Her annual Christmas gifts to her kids and grandkids were donations to organizations that reflected her love and care of people, children, and animals. She was a member of the water aerobics North Valley Mermaids and Men for many years.
Marthanne is survived by her four children; Thad "Stretch" Cole and wife Harriet, Marta Jones, Lisa Yost and husband Craig, and Emily Duensing and husband Dan. Four of Wayne's children; Susan Propst, Patti Nelson, Roger Reinhard, and Eric Reinhard. A sister, Reba and husband Ken. She has 10 grandchildren (Erika, Kirsten, Megan, Paul, Justin, Stephanie, Nicole, Todd, Cole and Scott) and 12 great grandchildren (Kealy, Haley, Charlie, Parker, Colton, Mayven, Dylan, Lena, Olivia, Max, Jack, and Charlotte). Marthanne was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and husband, Wayne Reinhard.
A Celebration of New Life service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rio Rancho on Saturday, March 22 at 11am. A graveside service and internment will take place at Rosebud Cemetary in Glenwood Springs, Colorado later in the summer.
