It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martha (Marty) Louise Hill Baker, a beloved wife, mother, friend of all, and accomplished violinist, writer and actor. Marty had been struggling to live since her Sudden Cardiac Arrest on June 26, 2015 and her heart finally gave out. Marty was born on September 28, 1950, in Lebanon, PA, to her parents, Winslow Hill and Janet Round. Throughout her life, Martha found her passion for the violin starting at the tender age of 5 and went on to pursue a successful career as a musician and music therapist. She published the book “Ipse Dixit” in 2018 and wrote many other stories over her lifetime. She appeared in many plays in New Mexico.
Marty's talent graced the stage of the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra, where her exquisite performances captivated audiences and left a lasting impact on all who had the honor of hearing her play. Her devotion to her art was matched only by her love for her family, especially her husband, Bill Baker. She married Bill on June 23, 1988.
Her legacy of music and love will forever be cherished by those who knew and adored her. She started a String Quartet called the Valiant Women and adored her violin coach, Willy Sucre. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winslow and Janet Hill; her son, Vincent. She is survived by her husband Bill; sisters, Katherine Dunlevey and Suki Smutz; children, Robert Baker, Monique and Carisa; nieces Jo Ann and Betsy; and her grandchildren, Trevor and Vivian Baker.
Though Martha's physical presence may be gone, her music and love will echo in our hearts eternally, a sweet and melodic tribute to a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved. May she rest in peace.
There will be a memorial service for Marty at Sandia Vista Senior Living ( 500 Paisano St NE. Albuquerque, NM 87123) on Friday, March 22 at 2:30 pm. Please RSVP at 505 291-0600 if you plan to attend.
