Martha Jaramillo

August 28, 1939 — January 8, 2022

Martha Jaramillo (82) a resident of Albuquerque, NM, and born in Blanca, CO, on Monday, August 28, 1939, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Martha was genuinely a kind, generous, intelligent, wise, and strong woman that all of her family looked up to. She was straight forward with her advice, and many appreciated it because they knew she had a wealth of experiences to draw from. She was a force to be reckoned with, raising six children on her own, she often worked two or three jobs to help support her family. She was a natural born leader who inspired those around her.

She attended nursing school and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. Martha had a compassionate heart and donated regularly to the World Vision program and supported three orphaned children. She was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. She often took in and helped raised a variety of relatives throughout the years while living in Florida and Albuquerque. Martha traveled as an Air Force wife and enjoyed meeting a vast array of new neighbors where she quickly made lifelong friendships. Martha had many hobbies including leading and assisting her sons in their Boy Scout program, encouraged her children to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities like cheerleading, baseball, tennis or in band programs. She sold Tri-Chem Liquid Embroidery Fabric Paints earlier in her marriage and was quite good at earning extra income. She was an outstanding and resourceful meal planner and cook, a puzzle master, beautiful illustrator, crocheted hundreds of dish cloths for her church's Women Conferences and contributed hand crocheted blankets for raffles. She was an excellent seamstress making a variety of outfits for her children and grandchildren.

Martha knew many things and engaged in current topics in detail with friends and family. She had many friends and co-workers that cherished her. Martha worked for the State Probation Department and DVR (Department of Vocational Rehabilitation) and was an expert in both fields. Many of her co-workers sought her out for her advice and expertise. She retired with the DVR at 78 years old.

Martha was a Christian and attended faithfully at Tower Road Baptist Church, led by her son, Pastor Nathaniel Jaramillo for many years. She was indeed an accomplished woman.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Alphonso (Coal Miner) and Cora Vigil (Homemaker); and siblings, Helen Vigil Garcia, Toby Vigil, Joe Arthur Vigil, Alfonso Vigil, Pearl Vigil Espinoza Lee, Michael Vigil, Ruth Thelma Vigil Madrid. The biggest heartbreak of her life was the recent passing of her son, Matthew Jaramillo, in December of 2021. She is survived by one brother, Daniel Vigil (wife, Dorothy); and her five remaining children, Mary Mendoza (husband, Epifanio), Nathaniel Jaramillo (wife, Betty), Natalie Jaramillo, Greg Jaramillo, and Roxana Jaramillo (partner, Victor Lee); a daughter-in-law, Linda Jaramillo, and family member, Mitsue Jaramillo. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was the perfect grandmother. Martha is also survived with numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends too many to list. She loved them all.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, 2:00 p.m., at Tower Road Baptist Church, 601 86th St. SW.

Martha's son, Pastor Nathaniel Jaramillo, will be officiating his mother's Memorial.
